The first public version is still in development and may contain bugs, but it already allows you to play Infinity Blade on modern Android smartphones and tablets.

The port appears to be a version of the PC port that was released some time ago. The Android version is complete and is in a 16:9 screen format.

Infinity Blade was one of the games that showcased the potential of mobile phones

When Infinity Blade arrived on iOS in 2010, the game drew attention mainly for its graphics. Developed using the Unreal Engine 3, the title featured detailed three-dimensional environments, real-time combat, and a progression system that seemed far above what was typically seen on mobile phones at the time.

In the adventure, the player controls a warrior who must face a series of enemies and bosses in a massive castle, advancing until the confrontation with the dreaded God-King. Combat uses touch commands: swiping your finger across the screen allows you to attack, while other movements are used to block, dodge, and perform different actions.

In addition to battles, the game features RPG elements. By defeating enemies, the player earns experience, money, and new equipment, allowing them to improve attributes, weapons, armor, shields, and character skills.

The game eventually disappeared from the App Store

Despite its enormous success, the Infinity Blade series was eventually removed from digital stores. The first game and its sequels were removed from the App Store in 2018 and, subsequently, could no longer be officially downloaded, even by users who had previously purchased the titles.

It is precisely this disappearance that motivated the new project for Android. According to the person responsible for the port, the initiative aims to preserve the first Infinity Blade and allow the game to remain accessible on modern devices.

PC port had already taken Infinity Blade to another platform

The Android version is not the community’s first attempt to take Infinity Blade outside of Apple’s ecosystem. In February 2024, fans also released an unofficial port for Windows of the first game.

The PC version also provides the complete experience and was created by fans of the franchise, since Infinity Blade never received an official release for Windows. The project ended up becoming an alternative for preserving the classic after it was no longer commercially available.

Android port features improvements for modern devices

The new port is not simply an attempt to run the original iOS version on an Android phone. The project has received some changes to work better on current devices.

Among the added features are support for foldable phones, compatibility with ARM32 and ARM64 architectures, higher texture quality than the original iOS version, separate volume controls for music and sound effects, and a system for exporting and importing save files.

The developer also made compatibility adjustments for different GPUs. In the most recent updates, issues related to black screens on devices equipped with Mali, Immortalis, and PowerVR GPUs were fixed, in addition to replacing DXT texture compression with ASTC for greater compatibility.

The first version may still contain bugs

As this is an independent project still in its early stages, don’t expect the same level of stability as a commercial release. The person responsible for the port warns that this is the first public version and that issues may arise during gameplay.

This is particularly important because Infinity Blade was originally developed for Apple’s ecosystem and needs to be adapted for a wide variety of Android devices, each with different processors, GPUs, and system versions.

Even so, the release is quite interesting for those who followed the evolution of mobile gaming. After all, we’re talking about a title that helped demonstrate, back in 2010, that smartphones could deliver experiences visually close to those of consoles.

An important piece of mobile gaming history

More than simply recovering an old game, the Infinity Blade port represents an attempt to preserve an important part of mobile gaming history.

At the time of its release, Epic Games itself highlighted the impact of the title. In its first six months, Infinity Blade surpassed US$10 million in revenue and helped demonstrate the commercial potential of high-end premium experiences on iOS.

Now, almost 16 years after its debut, the classic has gained a new opportunity to be experienced on Android devices thanks to a fan-made project.

Important: the port is unofficial and has no affiliation with Epic Games or ChAIR Entertainment. The project was presented as a preservation initiative. As the game files still involve the intellectual property of their owners, Mobile Gamer Brasil does not provide copies of the game files nor offer guidance on ways to obtain protected content in an unauthorized manner.

For those who already own a legal copy of the files and want to follow the project’s development, the community responsible for the port maintains information about versions, fixes, and compatibility. It’s also worth remembering that the Android port is still subject to updates and corrections.

APK LINK

One of the most impressive games in smartphone history has just gained a new life on Android.
