Zombie Infection HD, one of Gameloft’s great classics, has received an unofficial APK port for Android. The third-person shooter and horror game, originally released for iPad in 2010, is back on mobile phones thanks to an adaptation developed by the community, which uses the touchHLE emulator to run the original iOS version.
The news follows the wave of unofficial ports that have been appearing on Android in recent months.
This time, the highlight is the rescue of a game that never received an official version for Google’s system and that became practically inaccessible after Apple dropped support for old 32-bit applications.
The new version runs natively and is made based on the iOS version, and was recompiled to run on new Androids (16, 17) and with 64-bit support.
The adaptation was announced in Android gaming communities as an APK package of Zombie Infection HD, using the original iPad edition, which has sharper graphics than the iPhone version.
Zombie Infection HD gets an Android APK with graphics from the iPad version
The most interesting thing about this release is the way the game was adapted.
Instead of recreating Zombie Infection HD from scratch, those responsible took advantage of the touchHLE project, a high-level emulator capable of running old iPhone and iPad games on modern devices.
The adaptation uses the game’s original files in IPA format, combined with a version of touchHLE prepared for Android. The result is a distribution in APK format, similar to the one used by other unofficial ports that have been shared by the community.
In practice, the goal is to make access to the Gameloft classic easier, without requiring the player to manually configure all the components of an iOS emulator.
Although it is part of this new wave of ports for Android, Zombie Infection HD does not use full native recompilation of the game’s code. Its execution continues to depend on touchHLE’s high-level emulation technology, which reproduces the necessary functions of Apple’s old system.
The difference is that the adaptation was prepared specifically for the game, bringing the experience closer to that offered by a conventional Android application.
Another important detail is that the project uses the HD edition released for iPad, with an original resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels and sharper visual elements.
Zombie Infection HD was Gameloft’s Resident Evil
For those who don’t remember, Zombie Infection was released for iPhone in May 2010. Two months later, Gameloft made Zombie Infection HD available, an enhanced version for the first iPad.
The game drew attention for its similarity to Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5, using a camera positioned over the character’s shoulder, firearm combat, and a campaign focused on survival against infected creatures.
The story follows Damien Sharpe, a former soldier, and Alex Rayne, a journalist. The two travel to South America to investigate a mysterious infection that is turning people and animals into violent creatures.
During the campaign, the protagonists must face different types of zombies, discover the origin of the contamination, and unravel a conspiracy involving secret experiments.
Zombie Infection HD offers 12 levels, passing through favelas, mines, zoos, docks, vessels, and laboratories.
In addition to conventional enemies, the game features mutants, infected animals, and bosses that require different strategies during confrontations.
The arsenal includes pistols, shotguns, and other firearms. There are also close-range strikes and special finishers that can be performed when enemies are weakened.
For the standards of 2010 mobile games, Zombie Infection HD was a quite ambitious production, with detailed three-dimensional scenarios, elaborate animations, and a campaign similar to the one found in portable consoles of the time.
New version of touchHLE helped bring the game to Android
The arrival of this APK was also made possible thanks to recent improvements to touchHLE.
In January 2026, version 0.2.3 of the emulator had already included Zombie Infection among the games officially recognized as compatible.
Later, in October 2026, update 0.3.0 added support for applications developed specifically for the iPad.
This change was important because, previously, the project was mainly aimed at games created for iPhone and iPod touch, which used smaller screen resolutions.
With the new support, it became possible to run iPad versions of different games from the time, including Gameloft titles that received HD editions exclusive to Apple’s tablet.
The improvements also involved compatibility with old iOS 4 and iPhone OS 3.2 applications, as well as fixes related to the functioning of interfaces and graphics.
Despite the advances, the experience may still present graphical problems, glitches in certain scenes, and performance differences depending on the smartphone used.
How to download Zombie Infection HD APK for Android?
The unofficial port of Zombie Infection HD is being promoted in communities dedicated to preserving old games and adapting iOS titles for Android.
One of the distributions shared by the community appears identified as Zombie Infection HD v1.0.0 (iOS Game touchHLE) APK, with support for the iPad edition and Android devices with ARM64 architecture.
It is important to note that there are different packages and test versions. Some distributions present the components prepared for installation, while others still provide the touchHLE application and the IPA file separately.
As this is an independent adaptation, there is no official support from Gameloft, and compatibility may vary depending on the version used.
touchHLE is free and open source. The commercial files of Zombie Infection HD, however, remain protected by copyright and are not part of the emulator’s official distribution.
Another Gameloft classic gets a second life
The release of Zombie Infection HD in APK format shows how the community is recovering games that practically disappeared from the mobile market.
During the early years of Android and iOS, Gameloft became known for releasing productions that tried to reproduce the experience of major console games on mobile phones.
Among the main examples were N.O.V.A., Modern Combat, Brothers in Arms, Dungeon Hunter, Gangstar, and Zombie Infection itself.
Many of these games ended up being removed from stores or lost compatibility with the most recent versions of the operating systems.
With projects like touchHLE and APK adaptations developed by fans, these titles are finding a new opportunity to reach players.
Zombie Infection HD is especially interesting because it represents a time when Gameloft invested in complete premium games, with campaign, story, and graphics that sought to impress.
More than 16 years after its release, Gameloft’s zombie classic is once again gaining prominence, now on Android phones.
