Rainbow Six Mobile to shut down in January 2027, less than a year after global launch

Ubisoft confirmed on Thursday (October 8) that Rainbow Six Mobile is shutting down permanently. Players will be able to access the game until January 15, 2027, when its servers will be turned off.

The announcement is particularly striking because of how little time has passed since the worldwide launch. Rainbow Six Mobile launched globally on February 23, 2026, so it will shut down less than 11 months after becoming available worldwide.

Rainbow Six Mobile shuts down in January 2027

In a statement posted on its official website, Ubisoft said it had made the “difficult decision” to sunset Rainbow Six Mobile.

The company confirmed that players can continue accessing the game as usual until January 15, 2027. The next season will also launch next week as originally planned.

Ubisoft said more information will be shared over the coming weeks to explain how the transition to the server shutdown will work.

The game had 15 seasons since soft launch

Rainbow Six Mobile began its soft launch in 2023 and went through an extended testing period before its worldwide release.

According to Ubisoft, the game has had 15 seasons since then, with changes informed by community feedback.

The global launch took place only in February 2026, following years of closed tests, beta versions, and performance adjustments.

At the time, Ubisoft described the global launch as only the beginning and promised more operators, maps, modes, and features in future updates.

Shutdown follows cuts at Ubisoft’s mobile-related studios

Rainbow Six Mobile is shutting down amid a wider Ubisoft restructuring throughout 2026.

In January, Ubisoft closed Ubisoft Halifax in Canada, affecting 71 employees. Before its closure, the studio worked on mobile games in the Rainbow Six and Assassin’s Creed franchises.

Months later, Ubisoft also shut down its Winnipeg studio in June. According to Insider Gaming, approximately 50 staff working on Rainbow Six Mobile and an unannounced project were removed from those teams during the restructuring.

Importantly, Ubisoft has not said these cuts directly caused Rainbow Six Mobile’s shutdown. Still, the history shows the project had been affected by internal changes even before this week’s announcement.

Ubisoft gave no specific reason for the shutdown

The company did not cite falling player numbers, revenue, or any other specific cause for the decision.

In its statement, Ubisoft said it was proud of what the team had built and confirmed that the developers would be reassigned to other strategic long-term projects.

Details on potential refunds, premium currency, and in-app purchases have not been released yet.

Rainbow Six Siege adapted for phones

Rainbow Six Mobile was developed to bring the Rainbow Six Siege experience to Android and iOS.

It kept the tactical 5v5 format, with attackers and defenders, operators with distinct abilities, drones, gadgets, and destructible environments.

Rainbow Six Mobile surpassed 10 million downloads on Google Play.

The game was still receiving updates shortly before the closure announcement. In September, the Operation Concrete Impact season added operator Zofia, a 3v3 Close Quarters mode, and a PAYDAY collaboration.

Servers will go offline on January 15

Rainbow Six Mobile will remain online until January 15, 2027. After that date, the servers will shut down and the game will no longer work.

For a title that spent years in development and testing ahead of its worldwide release, shutting down within a year is a harsh outcome.

It is another reminder of one of the biggest problems with server-dependent mobile games: even titles tied to major franchises can disappear only months after release.
