Devil May Cry 4 gets recompiled Android port with touch controls and gamepad support

Things are getting wild. After Need for Speed Most Wanted, Need for Speed Carbon and other recompilation projects appeared on Android, Devil May Cry 4 has now received an unofficial mobile version.

The new recompiled port already runs on Android with touch controls, gamepad support, advanced graphics settings and Portuguese subtitles. It is still under development but parts of the campaign, boss fights and cutscenes are already playable.

Devil May Cry 4 recompiled for Android

Unlike Devil May Cry 4 Refrain, the simplified 2011 iPhone version that also received community adaptations, this project attempts to bring the complete PC and console game to smartphones.

The version shown uses recompilation to adapt the game to Android, rather than running it inside a traditional emulator.

The demonstration shows the second campaign mission, with menus, cutscenes, combat and the Berial boss fight.

A smaller 3.4 GB version

Two builds are currently circulating. According to the team, an early build leaked ahead of schedule and takes up approximately 7 to 8 GB. It preserves better textures but requires more storage and hardware.

The later optimized version is approximately 3.4 GB and aims to work on more devices. The trade-off is minor visual imperfections in shadows and textures, particularly in the lighter build.

Customizable touch controls

The port has a complete touchscreen interface. Virtual buttons can be repositioned, resized and adjusted for opacity, and hidden altogether when a physical controller is connected.

Gamepad support already works, which is particularly useful in an action game that depends on complex combos and quick inputs.

FSR, up to 2K resolution and performance profiles

The settings menu is surprisingly extensive for a work in progress, including FSR, anisotropic filtering, sharpening, rendering resolution and performance profiles.

Resolution can be reduced dramatically on slower devices or raised to 2K on powerful phones. There are presets for lower-end phones, balanced mode and image quality, along with a 30 FPS cap and memory-saving settings.

The app also offers FPS, memory and temperature monitoring, plus the ability to import graphics drivers on compatible phones.

Still buggy and undergoing optimization

Although already playable, the demonstration makes clear this is an early build. The team is working to fix texture glitches, graphical artifacts and performance problems on weaker devices.

It appears to run comfortably on flagship phones, but less powerful hardware may need reduced resolution and a 30 FPS limit. For now, this is an experimental project rather than a finished commercial release.

Another Xbox 360 and PS3-era game arrives on Android

Devil May Cry 4 originally launched in 2008 on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC, and remains one of Capcom’s best-known action games.

Seeing something so close to the original running directly on Android highlights the growing momentum behind recompilation projects. A new attempt to bring a PC or console game to ARM seems to appear almost every week.
