Unofficial GTA 5 Mobile APK port reveals minimum requirements

The unofficial project that aims to bring GTA 5 to Android phones has received new information about compatibility and minimum requirements. According to details released by the developer responsible for the port, the first public version will have relatively high requirements and limited support for certain processors and GPUs.

The project is being developed by the same team involved in the unofficial port of GTA 5 for Nintendo Switch. Now, the group is working on a version intended for Android, still without a definitive release date.

Minimum requirements for “GTA 5 for Android”

According to information released by developer Mojo, from Paralympic Productions, the minimum requirements initially planned to run the port are:

  • Processor: Snapdragon 865 or higher;
  • RAM: 8 GB;
  • Storage: approximately 65 GB free;
  • System: Android 13 or higher;
  • Architecture: 64-bit only.

Older Snapdragon processors may even be able to start the game, but the developer does not guarantee adequate performance on these devices.

The required space also draws a lot of attention. With around 65 GB of storage, the project may be unfeasible for older phones or models with little available internal memory.

First version will focus on Snapdragon

Initial compatibility will be quite limited. In the first public version, the main focus will be on devices equipped with Snapdragon processors.

Some Samsung devices with Exynos processors and Xclipse GPUs may also be compatible, as long as the GPU supports the BC texture compression feature required by the project.

Devices with certain MediaTek Helio and Google Tensor processors, however, are not among the platforms currently planned to receive support.

Mali GPUs may gain support later

Those who own smartphones with a Mali GPU will have to wait a little longer. According to the developer, these GPUs will not be available in the first builds, but there is an intention to add compatibility later, after the project’s main issues are fixed.

The situation is different for PowerVR GPUs. According to the information released so far, this type of hardware should not receive support.

Part of these limitations would be related to the graphics extensions needed to run GTA 5. Not all mobile GPUs currently offer the features required by the game, which also helps explain why certain devices struggle even through PC emulators.

Android 13 will be mandatory

Another important requirement will be the operating system. The port will require at least Android 13, leaving out devices that remained on Android 10, 11, or 12.

In addition, there will be no 32-bit version. The project will be developed exclusively for 64-bit devices, something consistent with the minimum requirement of 8 GB of RAM and with the original PC version of GTA 5 itself.

No on-screen controls in the first versions

One of the decisions that may cause surprise is the initial absence of touchscreen controls. In the first builds, it will be necessary to use a controller connected via Bluetooth or cable.

The developer intends to add virtual controls later, when the project is more stable. Keyboard and mouse support, however, is not planned.

Unofficial GTA 5 Port for Android is still in development

Despite the release of the minimum requirements, the GTA 5 port for Android is still a project in development and may receive important changes before its public release.

It is worth remembering that this port is based on leaked code and that, because of this, it is very likely that it will be shut down by Rockstar through legal action.

The requirement of a Snapdragon 865, 8 GB of RAM, and Android 13 already makes it clear that the first version will be aimed mainly at relatively recent premium mid-range and high-end smartphones.

It is also important to highlight that this is an unofficial project, with no announced participation from Rockstar Games. For now, all that remains is to wait for new information about performance, compatibility, and, above all, when the first public version will be available for testing.
