Gangstar Mirage City begins rolling out on Android and iOS; a mix of “GTA6 with Cyberpunk”

Gangstar is back on mobile. Level Infinite, Tencent’s global brand, began rolling out Gangstar Mirage City this Thursday (20th), a new open-world game for Android and iOS that promises to blend the GTA formula with a futuristic setting reminiscent of Cyberpunk.

The title is an officially licensed continuation of the well-known Gangstar franchise from Gameloft, a series that for many years was one of the main alternatives to Grand Theft Auto on mobile. This time, however, the project is being published by Level Infinite and bets on a much more ambitious online experience.

The launch initially takes place in selected regions, including Latin America, the Middle East and North Africa, South Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, and Southeast Asia. As a result, players from Latin American countries are among the first to receive this new version.

Gangstar Mirage City blends GTA with Cyberpunk

Gangstar Mirage City is an open-world action RPG set in the fictional Mirage City. The city combines the franchise’s traditional crime and gang universe with futuristic elements, towering buildings, and an aesthetic that immediately brings to mind games like Cyberpunk 2077.

During the campaign, the player must build their own criminal empire while taking part in story missions, gang clashes, and various activities scattered across the map.

It will also be possible to invest in businesses and dispute territories, gradually increasing the character’s influence within the city.

The proposal retains several elements that made Gangstar known on mobile: a large city to explore, vehicles, shootouts, chases, and criminal activities. The main difference lies in the much greater focus on multiplayer features.

New Gangstar will have a strong multiplayer focus

While games like Gangstar Vegas and Gangstar New Orleans were built primarily around individual experiences, Mirage City bets more intensely on player interaction.

The idea is to turn the city into a shared environment where different players can participate in activities and build their own path within the criminal underworld.

This change brings the project closer not only to GTA, but also to the major open-world online RPGs that have become popular on mobile in recent years.

Game was previously known as Codename Crime-Vice

Although the name Gangstar Mirage City is new, the project is already known to those who follow Tencent’s upcoming major mobile releases.

The game originally appeared in October 2024 under the working title Codename Crime-Vice Open World. Since then, it has gone through different regional testing phases before officially adopting the Gangstar brand.

Among the countries that previously received test versions were the Philippines, Indonesia, Canada, and the United States.

The adoption of the Gangstar brand also clarifies one of the biggest curiosities surrounding the project. Since its first demonstrations, Crime-Vice drew attention for its enormous similarity to the Gameloft series.

Now we know it wasn’t just inspiration: the title is officially licensed as a new entry in the franchise.

Gangstar was the “GTA of mobile” for many years

For older Android and iPhone players, the return of the brand is significant. Gangstar was born precisely as an alternative to Rockstar’s open-world games at a time when there were practically no titles of this scale on smartphones.

The franchise gained different chapters over the years, including Gangstar: West Coast Hustle, Gangstar: Miami Vindication, Gangstar Rio: City of Saints, Gangstar Vegas, and Gangstar New Orleans.

Gangstar Vegas, in particular, became one of the most popular open-world games on Android and remains one of Gameloft’s most well-known titles.

Mirage City therefore represents an attempt to modernize the franchise for a new generation of mobile games, this time with an online structure and a seemingly much larger scale.

Gangstar Mirage City begins rolling out in selected regions

According to the information released on the game’s pre-registration site, Gangstar Mirage City starts being made available on August 20, 2026 on the Play Store (Android) and App Store (iOS).

The distribution will be done gradually, and for now, there is no confirmed date for a worldwide release.

The fact that Latin America is included in this first expansion, however, brings the new Gangstar much closer to Brazilian players.

With the franchise officially returning, a large open city, and a proposal that mixes GTA, multiplayer, and futuristic elements, Gangstar Mirage City emerges as one of the most interesting open-world mobile releases of 2026.
