Console emulation continues to advance on Android, and now it’s the PlayStation 4‘s turn to take its first steps on smartphones. An independent developer named edeegg has created an unofficial port of shadPS4, the famous PS4 emulator for PC, allowing some games to run directly on Android devices.
The project is still in its early stages, but it has already caught the community’s attention for featuring a very complete interface and for being able to run some titles surprisingly well.
The information was released by the TRC Games channel, which received early access to the test version of the app.
Sonic Mania already runs with good performance
In the tests conducted, lighter games showed encouraging results. The highlight was Sonic Mania, which managed to start normally, with audio working and performance considered playable on devices equipped with top-of-the-line hardware.
Other titles also managed to open, although they still present graphical glitches, lack of audio, or instability during execution.

Bloodborne still doesn’t work properly
As expected for such a recent project, more complex games still face difficulties. One of the tests performed was with Bloodborne, which managed to display initial screens on some devices but still closes before effectively entering gameplay.
Other games like Celeste and Metal Slug Anthology also presented issues during testing and could not run correctly.

The future of PS4 emulation on Android
Despite the limitations, the mere fact that a PlayStation 4 emulator can already open games on Android shows how far emulation has advanced in recent years. We are still far from broad compatibility, but the first results indicate that the idea is technically possible.
Now it remains to follow the project’s evolution and discover which games will be able to run in the coming months. If development continues to advance, Android may be getting closer and closer to receiving truly usable PS4 emulation.
