Plants vs Zombies 3 has had a complicated journey since its first soft launch in 2020. Since then, the game has been removed and relaunched several times, undergoing significant structural changes.
After new tests in 2021 and a long period offline, the title returned in 2024 in early access, only to be withdrawn again months later for more adjustments.
Now, in 2026, the game reappears with a more refined proposal.
Classic Gameplay with New Features
The new version maintains the essence of the franchise, with the traditional lane-based tower defense system, but adds new mechanics.
Among the main changes are:
- Longer and more strategic stages
- Greater focus on individual plant use
- Plant merging system
- Removal of elements like avatars
The story continues to revolve around the villain Dr. Zomboss, who returns with new plans involving a mysterious meteorite linked to the universe of Crazy Dave.
New Direction Aims to Please Longtime Fans
One of the main changes perceived in this version is the return to a style closer to the franchise’s classic games.
EA seems to have backtracked on some experimental ideas and is now betting on an experience more faithful to what made the series famous.
Global Launch Could Still Happen in 2026
For now, early access is only available in specific regions, but the expectation is that new countries will be included in the coming months.
Electronic Arts confirmed that the game is scheduled for a full global launch still in 2026.
