The mobile gaming classic, Flappy Bird, is officially back! More than a decade after its peak popularity and subsequent removal from app stores, the game has been relaunched for Android via the Epic Games Store. This comeback was made possible by the Flappy Bird Foundation, which acquired the brand following the expiration of the original trademark.
Originally created by Dong Nguyen in 2013, Flappy Bird became famous for its simple yet extremely challenging gameplay. Now, in 2025, the game returns with new features that expand the experience beyond the classic mode.
New Features: Campaign Mode, Characters, and Customization
In addition to the nostalgic Classic Mode, the new version includes a Quest Mode, where players can explore brand-new worlds, unlock challenges, and meet new characters. Highlights include Tekno, a robotic bird, and Quirky, a unicorn-inspired character. Players can customize characters with exclusive skins.
It’s worth noting that the original creator, Dong Nguyen, is not involved in this new version and is not receiving financial compensation for the relaunch. The IP is now managed by Gametech Holdings, LLC, which currently owns the Flappy Bird brand.

After a controversial start in 2024 with an attempt to implement Web3 elements and NFTs, the developer reversed course following backlash from the community and the original creator. The new Flappy Bird is now a 100% Web2 title, monetized through ads and cosmetic item purchases, such as helmets that work as extra lives.
Although the game remains free to play, ads are frequent and may bother some players. Still, the relaunch succeeds in preserving the original essence while introducing fresh features without overcomplicating the simple gameplay that made Flappy Bird a global phenomenon.
